So I get back to the room, checked out and apparently I progressed! I went from 3cm-4cm and 75%-90% effaced. Here's where it all went crazy!! The nurse practitioner looked at my blood pressure from that morning and thought it was a little high, she thought this last time too. Nothing extreme but, you don't want to mess around with that sort of thing at the end of a pregnancy you know? So since it was kinda high she was going to Labor & Delivery to ask if they had space for me, to go ahead and induce me. As long as we were on board, which we were considering how fast things were moving at that point. So Micah and I strolled on over to L&D and said we're here to have a baby!! Well, that's basically what was about to happen! I was placed in a room and they started hooking me up to stuff and taking blood to get all the lab work done. I was not opposed to an epidural either so they went ahead and took blood for that too.
Fast forward a couple hours the guy comes in to do my epidural, shortly after they will come in to break my water... the doc came and broke- how pleasant! Apparently however the epi was placed was wrong though. Because it wasn't doing it's job yet!! So they called another guy in to re-do and he was great! I would end up seeing him alot that night, he would be the one drugging me during surgery. ;)
Honestly, I'm gonna make this real quick here!! I am SO tired just sittin here in this chair that I'm over it but, I want to get these pictures and story up. So onto the rest......
Broken water, new epi (which by the way took effect and was wonderful) kept getting my pitocin drip to regulate contractions... which they say I should at least dilate 1cm every hour (minimum) with all this going on. Well, turns out I went way quicker, the nurse comes to check me at 7-7:30 and I am complete. Fully dilated, fully effaced all is ready except Landon. His head is still up high but, we figure everything is in place why don't we start trying to push?! Long story short, total 2 1/2-3 hours of pushing and he progresses NONE! Throughout the whole pushing event a resident came in, a family practioner then an OB. All at seperate times that is but, they all had to see that I was pushing correctly and what not. So, they all saw that I was doing what needed to be done but, every time I pushed Landon would maybe come down a little but, he would just go back up :(
So now we are down to hearing "our options", which they're really aren't any but the big C at this point. Only because they didn't know what was holding him back and we did not want put any stress on him. They thought it could possibly be that his shoulder was stuck behind my pelvic bone or it was his size, or maybe that I was not shaped right down there for him to do his thing! We just didn't want to take any risks. They mention the vacuum but, it can't really work at this point because he never gets to that crowning position for it to work so really all we have left to do is a c-section. All of the folks that came in made the decision together that a c-section would indeed be the next and right choice. At least through all of this Landon was not in any stress at all and we didn't have to resort to emergency surgery, it was as "planned" as can be!!
We got all prepped for surgery, what a fun time let me tell ya. I loved that feeling of being flat on the bed, arms out and then the drape (in front of my face) goes up. If you can't tell I am being totally sarcastic! That was the worst feeling just waiting for it to all go down, yuck! fast forward..... they call Micah to come in, he sits at my head and we wait. Through all the tugging and pressure I was just ready to hear a little baby. My druggie told Micah, hey dad we are about to have a baby born, if you wanna see! I was like NO, you don't have to watch! I was thinking... eww this poor guy is going to have to see the inside of my abdomen! I know, he's my husband but, come on.... some things really are private- like the inside of your body!!! Micah goes ahead and stands up to watch and there he is, as soon as they get him out we have crying! They took Landon to the corner to wipe him down and hand to Micah (so he could come show me) and then they all head to the nursery to weigh and measure him. So I get to stay and finish my lovely surgery :-P
Finally, it's all over and everyone is healthy, Landon was born on August 8, 2008. He weighed 8lbs 7 ozs and was 21in long. He is a very healthy boy and anyone who is interested.. his Apgar score was 8 (1 minute) and 9 (5 minute). We will actually be going back to the hospital tomorrow for his 2 day check up and I get to have my staples removed. Not looking forward to that by the way.... I'll give y'all more updates later. Sorry it got so long winded but, I was even trying to make it shorter than the real thing! Ok, it's time to feed and change Landon now.
