They are called Vibram 5 Fingers. The point is to get the benefits of being barefoot but, not actually having to be barefoot. They help you use so many different muscles in your legs and feet which in turn improves your balance and agility and so on...
I had a crazy experience with mine though, whenever we would do any type of squat work-out I would just naturally go forward on my toes (bad, bad for squats). I was improving on it but, sometimes without realizing I would revert to the bad form.
Anyways, the first day we got our shoes it just so happened to be a day that we did front squats or something. So with the shoes on I plopped right into the perfect squat position, husband was amazed! So needless to say, they cured me!! LOL They may be funny looking but, they serve their purpose ;)

Whoa! Those are totally weird. Do they still have arch support? I didn't know their were benefits to being barefoot. Ha!
No, unfortunately they don't have arch support. Which is the one problem I have. When we have a 'run' in our work-out I prefer tennis shoes since I have supportive insoles in those.
With these Vibram5 Fingers you can really feel how many more muscles (in your legs & feet) you use when you run.
My hubby was aching all over one day because he decided to go for an actual run, run in them. Not knowing how sore it would make him.
